Welcome to my ‘Proper Job’
I’ve always known I wasn’t quite cut out to work in the ‘proper world’ so it didn’t come as a big surprise to be told at school. I suppose looking back, they did me a favour. But from the age of 16 I spent my time pursuing a career that I thought would prove them wrong. I was very creative and used that to try and get a ‘proper job’ in advertising where I could earn lots of money and win creative awards. After my degree, I left Uni at 22 and went to work in London for an Ad Agency.
I lasted less than a week.
Selected clients include: John Lewis, The Art File, Design Design, Extinction Rebellion, Pop Shots magazine and Brunel University.

With one small child in tow, I decided to create my own world and approached what was then, The Princes’ Trust, secured a £5000 loan and my first business was born. Fast forward 3 more children and 15 years, I sold the business to Simon Elvin Ltd and started my second business as a commercial Christmas card illustrator. It’s taken me another 15 years to get where I am today, still working for myself, running creative workshops, teaching creative business skills, and finally being happy with not having a ‘proper job’.
